In both writing in english and french there is a problem in the sense of lexical resources and all the tenses' usages. It is not easy as in spanish to express exactly what I think in the way I want it, actually even in spanish sometimes is very hard.
Making a comparison, writing in English can be a little easier than in french, talking about gramatical aspects (variety of tenses, conjugation, irregular verbs, etc.), but it is also true that our language is more similar to french, so you can think in a way closer to the other language.
Besides, I think french is richer in vocabulary than english, that means you can adorn your text like in spanish, however, this is "counter-productive" because this makes english writing simpler, or faster, of course this depends on the kind of text.
Something similar happens to me, but I think that would be really nice if you let us know a comparison with something that you enjoy to do and something that you don't
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you say that when you write in french you can "adorn your text", you have more words for saying something and make your ideas so sexy. I think in english you can do the same, despite this for me it is so difficult not "simpler" not "faster" as you say, I spend a lot of time writing in english and my ideas don't go out in an easy way.

ReplyDeleteI also have these kind of sensations about writing... Although, I think that the problems to express our thoughts in other languages, even in our mother tongue, lie not only on our grammatical skills but also in our mind, when we don't know how to organize our ideas...
ReplyDeleteIt might have not taste... but It is a good damn start... I think that the most important thing to do in order to write - anything- is to feel comfortable about what we are writing... I mean, If I am trying to write in English or French, It could be a good excercise to feel, to act or even to think like an anglo or french speaker - you know get in touch with its "cosmovisión" in that way feel more "close" - have some intimacy- with the foreing words I'm trying to write...
ReplyDeleteWhen I first read my text, that's what I wanted to say with all that mumbling: it was not a comparison like yours, I think I misunderstood the thing, but it's already done ... yes, it's tasteless ...mmmmm... seasoning don't agree with me lately, but it's just a matter of time aaaand habit, anyway, as Diana wrote: "it is also in our mind", I'm trying to organize my ideas in the best way, and it takes long, english is faster by comparison with french, but it is not with the language of thought, which I supposed it's spanish. Now I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is my dear Luisa that what we write reflects not only an academics outline... to write is as personal as your tooth-brush... we have to seek for our inner voice and make it explicit... so just try to write whatever comes to your head, it is a good excercise to find some sense in your words... XOXO
ReplyDeleteSometimes one doesn´t need so much flavor when one wants to taste the basic things. The text really has taste, the taste of the moment in which you wrote the text. But I know that you have an excellent collection of condiments.
